Panel Replacement vs. Electrical Service Upgrade

A panel replacement and an electrical service upgrade are not automatically the same project. The panel distributes electricity to branch circuits; a service upgrade can involve the equipment and capacity supplying the home. The right scope depends on the condition found, planned loads, existing service equipment, and the actual project.

Ask whether the concern is equipment condition, lack of circuit positions, service capacity, a planned load, or a combination. That question is more useful than assuming a new panel automatically changes the home’s service capacity.

Permit, inspection, meter, and utility steps vary by jurisdiction and scope. Confirm what applies to the actual address before treating a general description as the project plan.
