Panel replacement and service upgrades are not the same question

A panel is the equipment that distributes electricity to branch circuits and contains overcurrent protection. Replacing panel equipment can be different from changing the electrical service that supplies the home. The right scope depends on the equipment condition, available capacity, planned loads, meter/service equipment, and the work required at the property—not on an amp number alone.

Capacity is evaluated from planned demand, not from a single label

An electrical load calculation is used to evaluate whether the existing service can support the loads already present and the loads proposed for the home. An EV charger, heat pump, electric range, workshop equipment, addition, ADU, hot tub, or other new load can change the discussion. A higher amp rating is not an automatic upgrade recommendation; the equipment and planned demand have to be evaluated together.
