Electrical Capacity & Load Assessment
Find out what your home can support before you add an EV charger, heat pump, electric range, water heater, workshop equipment, or other major load.
Capacity is more than the number on a panel label or the number of empty breaker spaces. Stone looks at the existing service, the loads already in use, the equipment you plan to add, circuit needs, equipment condition, and future projects before explaining the practical options.
Stone Electric provides licensed and insured residential electrical service. Call (303) 325-2935 or schedule service.
Before you call
Bring the equipment model if known, where it will go, and any future projects you are considering. A plan for one new load may change when an EV, heat pump, electric water heater, range, dryer, hot tub, or workshop is also part of the picture.
What Stone evaluates
Stone reviews current and planned loads, service information, panel condition and available positions, circuit routes, equipment requirements, grounding and bonding context, and whether the project may be served by the existing system, a dedicated circuit, a subpanel, panel work, managed loads, or a service upgrade.
What the assessment can clarify
Existing system with a new circuit
Some projects may be served by the existing system when the circuit, route, and evaluated load support the work.
Distribution or equipment work
A subpanel or panel project can be relevant when circuit distribution, equipment condition, or available positions are part of the issue.
Managed loads or service capacity work
When multiple loads compete, the conversation can include project sequencing, compatible load-management options, or a service upgrade. None is automatic from an amp label alone.
How capacity planning works
Stone starts with the actual home and planned equipment, explains what the assessment shows, and discusses the project paths that fit the electrical system. Permit, inspection, and utility steps are confirmed only for the selected scope and address.
Know when to stop and call
You can note the main-breaker label, visible warning signs, planned equipment, and a safe photo of the closed panel. Do not remove the panel cover, touch conductors, add breakers, or use online arithmetic to approve capacity. Heat, burning odor, smoke, arcing, water intrusion, shock, or repeated trips are reasons to stop and call for qualified help.

Common questions
Is an empty breaker space the same as available capacity?
No. Physical breaker space and the calculated capacity of the existing service are separate questions.
Do I automatically need 200-amp service for new electrical equipment?
No. The existing system, current loads, planned equipment, and project design determine the useful path. A 100-amp or 200-amp label does not answer every capacity question by itself.
Can an electrician plan several future electrical upgrades together?
Yes. A combined plan for charging, heating and cooling, water heating, cooking, drying, workshop equipment, or other loads can be more useful than evaluating each change in isolation.
